Fostering Academic Integrity Conference
American University in Cairo, Egypt
December 4-6, 2010
In early December 2010, RIE director Dan Wueste and ICAI director Teddi Fishman, along with Don McCabe, Senior Fellow and Founding President of ICAI, and Tricia Bertram Gallant, Chair of ICAI’s Advisory Council, participated in an international conference hosted by the American University in Cairo, at its campus in Cairo, Egypt.
This was the first conference of its kind in the Middle East and North Africa. Mohamed Nagib Abou-Zeid, Chair of AUC’s Department of Construction and Architectural Engineering and the chair of its Academic Integrity Council organized the conference. (Abou Zeid is a member of ICAI’s Advisory Council.) Wueste led sessions on “Academic Integrity and its Impact on Business Ethics,” and “Intellectual Property Rights,” and served as a panelist for a session on “Academic Integrity: Cultural Perspectives. Fishman led a lively session on “Plagiarism.” Other topics were addressed as well, including “Research Ethics,”and “Early Intervention: preK to 12.”
The conference received a great deal of media attention in the Middle East (television as well as print media). Here’s a link to the American University in Cairo’s web page with links to a dozen media accounts (in Arabic) of the event
